In the south corner of the Campus Center building sits Monarch Hall, framed and shadowed by billowy trees. This L shaped hallway, named after the auditorium, makes its own special magic. And knowing your way around this hall may save your day.

The Campus Center is the latest brick addition to the college. Legend has it the Associated Student Union contributed the building to the school three decades ago. A suite, Campus Center room 102, was dedicated to the ASU for their accomplishment.

"Students need to know we have lots more stuff to offer than classes," Sherri Rodriquez, associate dean of student services said.

Many of the school's movers and shakers roam Monarch Hall. This group of faculty, staff volunteers and students dedicate themselves to the responsibility of accommodating campus life for Valley students by operating the offices of Monarch Hall.

The Offices Of Monarch Hall

Administrative office of the Vice President

This is an office where you generally don't want to be sent. Though, ironically, many students love to go there. "We bend over backwards to help students," Vice President of Student Services Yasmin Delahoussaye said. Students go to Campus Center room 100A for help with books, advice, financial aid, and a number of other concerns. "Ninety-nine percent of the time this office is able to help meet their needs. I think administration should think yes instead of no when it comes to students."

Disabled Students Programs and Services

This office is not just for the physically disabled, but also for people who are having a hard time retaining information and making good grades. The department encourages students, who think they just may need a little extra help, to visit Campus Center room 100. "We are there to remove whatever hurdles and barriers are in the students' path so they can get through Valley College as quickly as possible," Delahoussaye said.

Compliance Office

This office handles formal complaints of students who believe they've received a grade due to wrongful treatment or discrimination from their instructor. If you find yourself with an uncomfortable issue that you've tried to resolve but can't, see Kay Devine in Campus Center room 108. "If teachers haven't done anything wrong they shouldn't feel threatened, however, if there's some conflict we can use it as an opportunity to grow," Devine said. "I'd like to let the students know I'm here." There are laws in place to protect students from retaliation.

Office of the Associated Student Union

Here you can find members of student government. The executive council members and commissioners are representatives of the student body. They make decisions and plan events based on student interest and demand. Visit the officers to express your concerns regarding campus matters in Campus Center room 102.

The leaders in Monarch Hall encourage you to roam the hall freely and get to know your fellow monarchs and comrades in service.
