The Valley College athletic department has announced the hiring of two new coaches, Jim McMillan (Men's and Women's swimming) and former L.A. Mission Head Coach Dave Mallas (baseball).
"From what I hear, [Mallas is] a good guy, and I look forward to playing for him," said pitcher Jorge Olmedo who plans to return next season. "Hopefully, he can turn our program (1-35 this season) around and help us get some wins on the board."
Mallas, who has been coaching at L.A. Mission for the past year resurrected a program that had been struggling for some time. Flexing a 45-34 record in his two years there. Mallas' team finished second in Western State Conference play this season as his team finished with a 15-9 conference, and 21-3 overall record.
Swimming coach McMillan, comes to Valley after guiding the Pepperdine University polo team to a national championship as a co-head coach; and had a coaching stint with the U.S. Olympic team.
"Both coaches coming in, are quality coaches," says Sports Information Director Dale Beck. "I definitely see our programs improving greatly next year with the coaches coming in."
