If a band ever proved that timing and originality are everything, well, the Pixies have done it twice.

Beginning with their first gig back together in Minneapolis at the Fine Line Music Café and their highly-touted slot In this year's Coachella Festival in May, the Pixies have undertaken a rigorous touring schedule that has them booked all the way to mid-December on what many consider the hottest concert ticket of the year.

While there were plenty of Generation-X fans that loved them a little over a decade ago, a whole new generation of kids of the independent rock persuasion have sprung up in the wake of praise from rock icons such as Kurt Cobain and Thom Yorke, whose respective bands Nirvana and Radiohead have been heavily influenced by the Pixies' artistic sound.

The Pixies will be at the Greek Theatre in LA Wednesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 23. The Distillers and Grant Lee Phillips are opening for the band on Wednesday and The Thrills and Grant Lee Phillips will open for them Thursday.

In addition to being the "chance of a lifetime," as most fans see it, the shows offer great bills featuring opening acts such as the Distillers and the Mars Volta. The Pixies have also partnered up with DiscLive, a company that has made recordings of all of the North American tour dates available to fans immediately after the show. The DiscLive partnership is an innovative concept that both provides a memento to fans, and allows the band to control to a large extent the illegal bootlegging of their reunion shows.

While there are no plans for a new album, the future for the band looks bright -

the key to any band's legacy being whether they quit while they are still relevant. The fact that the Pixies did quit with relevance, and now have gotten back together with even more relevance, is a testament to what a special band they really are.
