The Valley College Academic Senate motioned to ratify the C- grading standard in transferable courses from CSUs Thursday.
Opposed to information stated in a Valley Star article in the Nov. 24 issue, the Senate never considered issuing C- grades to Valley students, but instead decided wherever the "C grade or better" grading standard applies, the grade of C- will not satisfy that standard.
"We cannot change the students' grades - the decision is if the transcript comes with a C- and whether it does or does not meet Valley's C standard," according to Sheri Berger, math instructor and member of the Valley College Curriculum Council.
There are no plus- or minus grades in Valley's grading system.
Though CSUs issue C- grades, it is not acceptable for Valley students to transfer to a CSU with a C- grade; CSUs make it clear in their admissions literature that a C- is not acceptable and must be repeated for a passing grade.
