The Valley College Health center is teaming up with the American Red Cross to organize an on-campus blood drive in Monarch Hall, March 16.
"All services at the LAVC Student Health Center are provided at little or no cost to currently enrolled students," according to Physician Assistant Sonia Nodal. "There is a full-time physician assistant on staff and a medical internist."
Nodal explained that students' tuition fees include a health fee that covers the services provided by the center.
The center, located in the North Gym, offers free and low-cost physical and psychological treatment. In partnership with the Valley Presbyterian Hospital, the center holds monthly events that support and educate the community, such as breast cancer awareness, free HIV and STD screenings and blood drives.
The center is ready to help an array of student health problems. Rounding out the staff is clinical psychologist Dr. Carl King, nurse practitioner Judy Holton, medical doctor Dr. Marie-There Pean, registered nurse Barbara Perlman and medical assistant Brandy Rodriguez.
All participants in the drive will be entered in a region-wide drawing for a free weekend get-away to Palm Springs. Those interested in donating are encouraged to call the Student Health Center to set up an appointment at 818-947-2918, or come to Monarch Hall between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 16.
