The Monarchs' Track and Field team is back after a successful meet at the invitational held at Cerritos College Saturday.

With about 40 schools competing from the Central Valley to San Diego, the Monarchs broke a school record in pole vault, while the other 90 percent of the Monarchs' Track and Field athletes broke their personal records in the early stages of the track season.

"This is still an early meet and we are pretty happy with the results," said Head Coach Francois Wolman.

Freshman pole vaulter Jenny Portillo broke the school record by vaulting 8'6''. Women's division athlete-of-the-week Alma Palacios won the 800-meter heat with a time of 2:34.02.

Men's division athlete-of-the-week Jordan Castellanos ran a strong race in both the 800 and 1500 meter.

"We have many athletes doing multiple events so it's exciting to see almost every event filled at a track meet," said Castellanos.

The Monarchs next meet is at Moorpark College on March 4 at 2 p.m.
