All three of the Los Angeles Community College District Trustees, Kelly Candaele, Michael Waxman and Nancy Pearlman, were granted another four years in office after winning re-election recently.

Board President Kelly Candaele, first elected to the Board in 1997, garnered 58 percent of the vote against Mark Gonzaga.

"Our District is heading in a very positive direction and we are in the process of expanding and rebuilding all of our nine campuses," said Candaele. "I'm very pleased that our board will continue to speak with one voice in Sacramento about funding for community colleges that will allow us to provide access and opportunity for our students."

Candaele was instrumental in the passage of propositions A and AA, school improvement bonds which total more than $2 billion and will fund the much-needed renovations and modernization of the nine district colleges.

Joining the board in 2001, Waxman, who ran unopposed in the election, served as chair of its external affairs committee.

Waxman also serves on two other committees; budget and student
success.

"Michael Waxman is a strong candidate," said Jeanne Rubin, Valley College's executive assistant to the president. "He is the son of Henry Waxman, a United States Congressman, who is hearing the baseball steroids case."

Nancy Pearlman, despite the opposition she faced from Maria Grunwald-Agazaryan and Gerald W. Pertulla, won 61 percent of the vote. Pearlman, who was first elected to the Board in 2001, now chairs the Infrastructure Committee.

"The opposition to Pearlman was that she was a strong advocate
to the environment," said Rubin. "During her first term she wanted all buildings to meet a platinum standard."

The new Board of Trustees will be sworn in July 6.
