The Monarchs' swim team defeated the Citrus College Owls 143-76 on Wednesday as they improved thier overall record to 2-2.
The Lady Monarchs fell short despite their hard work, losing 122-101 as their record dropped to 0-3 for the season.
"Everyone did what they had to do," said Head Coach Jim McMillan. "We had to put people in different events because we were missing our
breast strokers."
McMillan was pleased with the team's effort and said, "our guys stepped up, winning is their reward for hard training."
Adrian Mendosa won the three-meter diving event for the first time in his swimming career. Preston Vowels won the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle with times of 23.3 and 52.2.
"It was really close," said McMillan. "They swam real well, but Citrus just had more swimmers than we did and that is the bottom line."
Megan Winchell won the 100-meter breaststroke, which qualified her for the state meet.
Val Alberti won the 100-, 200-, and 500-meter freestyle for the Lady Monarchs and Katlin Houlison improved greatly in the 500-meter freestyle.
The Monarchs have two more meets against Pierce College and Santa Monica College before the conference championships when they
head to Cuesta College.
"Having won the last two meets will give us a positive feeling going into the conference championships," McMillan said. "If they all swim their best times, we stand to get second in the conference and that would be very good."
