They called them games, but it seemed more like batting practice for the Lady Monarchs as they swept the Mission College Eagles Thursday in a doubleheader 8-0 and 10-1.

The home wins over Mission pushes the Lady Monarchs' record to 24-9-1 overall and 15-7 in the Western Athletic Conference. Valley sits in third place behind College of the Canyons and Bakersfield College. They team hopes the record is good enough to make the playoffs.

"It feels good to win our last home games," said outfielder Brecken Bronner, who went 4 for 7 in the doubleheader, which included three triples and a home run.

The Lady Monarchs dominated the Eagles in the first game with the help of starting pitcher Pauline Marquecho. The freshman struck out six batters, allowed one walk and one hit on her way to the shutout. She also went 3 for 6 at the plate.

"We just have to stay focused and do same as we have been doing," Morquecho. "We feel really good about this season."

Valley fans witnessed more domination by the Lady Monarchs in the second game as the home team scored seven runs in the first inning. Bronner and Garcia combined for three triples in the first inning to give the Lady Monarchs a lead they would not relinquish.

Valley will wait for the conference meeting on Saturday to find out if they made the post season. Valley is hoping to take some of the momentum from the final home games into the playoffs.

"Once we get there [playoffs], there isn't a team that wants to play us," said Salazar who struck out seven, gave up two hits, one walk in the second game. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate.

"It doesn't matter who we are playing," said assistant coach Tanya Ledesma. "We just have to play Monarch softball."
