Letter: ASU - Dedication or Discrimination?
Issue date: 5/18/05 Section: Opinion
Ms. Theresa Chavez, your profound contempt toward the Armenian nationality is atrocious. Your words are spoken as that of a racial discriminator. An individual as proud, hardworking and passionate toward school activities such as Nelli Martirosyan, regardless of race, gender, or skin color, deserves to rank No. 1 in any desired position. How is it that Nelli Martirosyan had a landslide victory of 54% of the voting population, ALONE, and the remaining three opponents had 46% of the votes, COMBINED? It is only a matter of time that justice will prevail.
Ms. Chavez, earlier you referred to Nelli's campaign helpers as a "MAFIA" - A secret criminal organization of Italian origin operating in the United States and engaged in illegal activities such as gambling, drug-dealing, and prostitution. If any one person can stand up to me and point out that [any] of the [above-listed] was taking place on school grounds [because of Nelli's helpers], then you, Ms. Theresa Chavez, have every right to consider me part of a mafia.
It is sad to think that a student such as yourself cannot simply comprehend the true meaning of the word "mafia." After dedicating an entire day, putting in long hours for what we believe to be right and demonstrating the rights granted to us by the Bill of Rights itself, "the right of the people to vote and freely exercise their political status," how dare a defeated and miserable individual criticize the hard work of all campaign helpers?
The fact of the matter is, Theresa Chavez, life is a game and it isn't whether one wins or loses which decides one's character, but the sportsmanship of that individual. Let all envious souls take a lesson of how goals are achieved by mimicking Nelli's campaign strategies. After all, if Nelli's "mafia" was capable of maintaining such organization and dedication throughout the entire campaign, whatever happened to your "mafia"?????
