Letter: Gas Prices - Unite to Lower Them!

Recent events in the world have had a big effect on our lives. One effect is the recent price of gas going up. The price for gas has risen at least 10 cents a week, since the war in Iraq.
We all know when there is a war, the price of gas goes up. The reason for rising gas prices is that oil production is lower during war. Also, the politicians in Sacramento are another reason for high gas prices. Our state government has made little or no effort to reduce gas prices to ease the suffering of the working class.
I think a petition can help to bring the price of gas down. We can organize a petition and go door-to-door or ask people on campus to sign. Once we acquire enough signatures we will present the petition to the gas companies such as Mobil, Arco, 76 and Chevron and show to them if you do not bring the prices down, we will not buy gas from your company.
Therefore, a petition is the citizens' best opportunity to lower prices, so that people can put gas in their cars and go to work to take their children to other places.
