Hello my name is Eduardo Villalobos, I am a Los Angeles Valley College student. I know that many campus programs are meant to offer certain services to students and help them be successful. For example, E.O.P.S. is a really good campus program that offers many things that most Valley students can benefit greatly from. The only problem is that to benefit from all the great this program has to offer, you must meet some requirements. I feel that there is an urgent need for some of the requirements to be changed or removed. E.O.P.S. currently requires students to be attending full-time. This is not beneficial for students who must have a part-time job and are not able to take 12 or more units due to their work schedules.
I am one of these students. I would like to be a part of the E.O.P.S mainly because I am interested in the free tutoring and career counseling that they offer. I know that there are many other students that are in need of these and other services offered by E.O.P.S. These students have other responsibilities and need to keep their jobs. It would be a great help to all these students and myself if the full-time requirement was changed to six or nine units.
I hope that by voicing the opinion of many students and myself to the Valley Star, then as the school newspaper it may be possible to have greater influence on people to realize the need for minor changes. These changes will not adversely affect anybody. Changing or adjusting this requirement will only help more students to be successful in college. That is why making these modifications is the right thing to do.
Thank-you
Eduardo Villalobos
