RE: Counselors Here to Help (September 14, 2005)
Or, overwhelmed counselors offer poor advice.
Because of inspiring professors like Dr Al Zucker, Michael Mertens, Tom Yacovone and other teachers truly concerned for the success of their students, I am better advised than the counseling department, who suggested incorrectly that the TAP program was "extra work with no benefit" and "low-cost institutions don't offer financial aid."
One counselor was offended by a prepared list of questions, and the welcoming counselor's hostile attitude nearly dissuaded me from returning to college as an older student.
Moral: Seek many opinions.
Carefully choose wise advisors!
